Data Erasure Service

Data erasure is the complete removal of ANY residual representation of ANY digital data that remains on a data storage device, EVEN after attempts have been made to remove or erase the data by software. This residue may result from data being left intact by nominal file deletion operations, reformatting storage media does not remove data previously written to the media. Additionally some deleted data can be read through physical properties of the storage media that allow previously written data to be recovered.

Data that is ineffectively erased, (called Data Remanence), may make accidental or deliberate disclosure of sensitive information possible IF the storage media is released into an uncontrolled environment (e.g., thrown in the bin, lost, stolen by a competitor, sold, given away to a 3rd party for recycling, or even sent to a data recovery company for undeleting processes).

Various techniques can be used to completely erase data, some of which are:

  • Clearing
  • Purging/Sanitizing
  • Destruction
  • Overwriting
  • Degaussing
  • Encryption
  • Media Destruction

Standard data erasure software can be rendered useless by many factors, including inaccessible media, media that cannot effectively be erased, advanced storage systems that maintain histories of data throughout the data's life cycle, and persistence of data in memory that is typically considered volatile, for example RAM modules.

Data Recovery Sweden have in place several certified methods for the secure and total removal of data and the elimination of Data Remanence from all digital storage media. Our processes thoroughly destroys data, beyond software or hardware based forensic recovery strategies.

So, when your organization next upgrades its old computer systems and sends your old systems and hard disks away for recycling. Our data erasure and disk sanitization processes will prevent your company giving away sensitive information such as: privileged health information (PHI), sales contracts, trade secrets, email, customer databases and transactional data, financial records, bank information and other Personal Details.

Some of our hard drive erasure policies and data sanitization methods are:

U.S. Standard, DoD 5220.22-M - sometimes cited as a standard for disk data sanitization

NAVSO P-5239-26 (MFM) / (RLL)

Single-pass quick sanitizing method, with zeros

Single-pass quick sanitizing method, with random characters
